Daler Mehndi did it…

One of the recent activities that took the Internet by a storm is the ALS ice-bucket challenge. Hollywood, Bollywood celebrities and other famous personalities alike, from all across the world participated in the challenge to raise awareness for the disorder. Among the many compassionate hearts was Daler Mehndi, standing tall, at his entertaining and enthralling best. The Bhangra Star was one of the first few people in India to take on the challenge.

The ALS ice bucket challenge is a social media initiative to raise awareness and funds for ALS. ALS is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and is often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells that are in the brain and the spinal cord.

The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death.

Cognitive function is generally spared for most people. A higher number of people also display more subtle cognitive changes which may go unnoticed, but are revealed by detailed testing.

Unlike a few other neuro diseases ALS did not have enough attention and hence people lacked awareness about it. At an extremely necessary time, the ALS ice bucket challenge had started.

Mehndi, who has always been one of the first people to take part and encourage social initiatives, participated in the ALS bucket challenge too and kicked off by wishing everyone ‘Sat sree akaal’ and introducing himself as the ‘Turban man from India’.

He also sang his famous song ‘Tunak Tunak Tun’ to keep his audience hooked. Not only did he take the challenge, but also nominated Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra to take it further. Last but not the least, he thanked the little girl who nominated him for the challenge.

Way to go, don’t you think?
