Salok Mahalla 9 – Jo Sukh Ko Chaahai Sadaa

'Jo Sukh Ko Chaahai Sadaa' is a strong mantra with 57 salokas authored by the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur who laid his life for the protection of another faith. Hinduism was saved by Guru Tegh Bahadur who was martyred by the then Mughal ruler Aurangzed. These salokas were authored by the Guru whilst in the custody of Aurangzeb. These are straight, easy to comprehend couplets (salokas) answering the query of every seeking soul. The final intention of every alive being is to find peace, harmony and happiness. The Guru wrote these salokas in a common man's language substantiating the way to achieve everlasting peace and happiness, one that is not ephemeral.

Amidst the strains of Rabaab, harmonium, and tabla played by the virtuoso Daler Mehndi, the rendition of these salokas are all heart touching, meditative and motivating. They motivate you to live a worthwhile life, free from insecurities and encumbrances. The classical raagas in which the Artist has sung create an engulfing aura bringing in the much needed pause for the listener, leading to a feeling of deep peace.

Attempting a different genre is a natural progression for Artists who are immensely talented and secure in their space but their calling is ever expanding. Daler Mehndi was born to a head priest Bhai Ajmer Singh Chandan of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Bihar India and trained in Gurbani singing since his birth. Every now and then, the pop star revisits his roots to satiate his passion for music. Amidst the top selling Bollywood songs and dance anthem Bhangra songs, the author composer Daler Mehndi comes out with content which reflects his inner being. From Sufi to Hindu scriptures, to world faith, he continually reinvents himself at a breakneck speed as though there is no tomorrow.

What is commendable is that the singer, performer, author, composer, environmentalist - the multi talented Daler hones to perfection whatever he takes up. Just when one has figured out his latest avataar, he churns up a brand new image pleasantly surprising his compatriots and critics.
