Daler Mehndi tryst with Bollywood started with ‘Mrityudaata’ in the year 1997. Daler, who was being touted as the pioneer of Pop industry of India, was now being asked to give music for films.

The King of Bhangra was invited by King of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan to sing in ‘Mrityudaata’ which was Bachchan’s come back vehicle. Singer composer Mehndi also featured on the big screen with the veteran actor in the song, and the two legends burned the screen with their electric presence. The song ‘Na Na Na Re’ became a huge blockbuster and topped music charts all over.

The critics were not very kind to the movie and the film bombed on box office, however the song ‘Na Na Na Re’ was the only savior for the movie. The movie soundtrack did multiplatinum sales in a week of its release and raked in moolah for the producers and the music label.
