Daler Mehndi Gives Rs 12Lakhs to Defence fund
Renowned Punjabi Pop singer Daler Mehndi, who is funding a major greening scheme for the capital by growing trees on major highways, has contributed a sum of Rs 12 lakhs to help familites of these who laid down their lives during the Kargil operation.
This includes a sum of Rs one lakh contributed to the All-India Anti-Terrorist fund of the Indian Youth congress. In addition, he has given Rs five loakh to the Swabhimaan Committee set up by former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh.
A sum of Rs onelakh was contributed to the family of Army officer Vijayant Thapar of Noida who lad down his life in the Kaegil operations. A sum of Rs 15,000 each has also been paid to 21 jawans who were injured in the operations. Another singer, Harbhajan Mann, has annouced that the proceeds of his concerts in Punjab over the next few weeks will be given as contributions to the National Defence Fund.
